Updating esxi server
After I rebooted the host the build number changed to 1065491 which corresponds to ESXi 5.1 Update 1. Not a big deal though since the tools update does not require a reboot! Here is a great post on performing the update by downloading the bundle from the VMware update repository directly to the host – – great write up.
Good to know the update can be applied a number of different ways; using VUM if your host is managed by v Center, using the offline bundle, or by connecting directly to update repository from the host.
To list out the image profiles that are contained in the offline bundle using esxcli.

Among other things, you can use it to upload files such as vib packages to ESXi’s file-system.For this to work, you need SSH enabled on the ESXi host so you also need to ensure that network port 22 is not being blocked by any firewall en route.Hersey Cartwright is an IT professional with extensive experience designing, implementing, managing, and supporting technologies that improve business processes.Hersey is Solutions Architect for HPE Simpli Vity covering Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland. Then just drag the file from the source folder (left hand pane) to the destination folder (right hand pane).Figure 3 shows the process of copying a patch from a local folder to one created on a datastore.
